Since I was looking at the documented material closely for Three Halves, I came across a book ‘The Streets of Liverpool ‘a photographic record compiled by Colin Wilkinson and published byThe Bluecoat Press. These are the photographs from a collection of City Engineer’s Department, who commissioned photographers to document aspects of his department’s activities somewhere in 1890s.
What intrigued me was that some of the sites, in the book had not changed and I could recognize them and some had same names but had changed beyond recognition. From that moment whenever I got time I began taking pictures of the city streets and the dock areas. I found it interesting matching the street names and the sites with the ones in the book. Every time I discovered a street or a building not on easily found locations I wanted to discover more. I do not think I would have remembered or known the city center and the waterfronts in Liverpool if I had not gone looking for these specific sites I saw in the book.
