With so many killed and so many more suffering all over the world, with our way of lives being put upside down by increased violence, racism towards specific communities, issues of identity, humiliating airport security checks, I see Gandhi as a human rights activist and a philosopher who tried moving from the center to the circumference and back for self-knowledge. According to Gandhi "As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to make the world – that is the myth of the atomic age –as in being able to remake ourselves"... and "I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent"… What interests me about Gandhi and his philosophy is his idea of co-existence, for him "the law of nature in love, friendship, work, progress and security is creative interdependence".
